Additionally, CIDI received the Total Eco-Challenge Gala silver award in 2013 for exceptional and sustained achievement in planting trees and conserving forests in Lower Eastern Province and Coast region of Kenya (Now these regions fall under 10 counties: Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa, Lamu, Tana River Counties etc.

Our theory of change:

CIDIís theory of change is anchored on the premise that rapid and enduring change is possible when communities are able to initiate their own solutions to development challenges affecting them and harness and grow resources.

CIDI encourages local ownership and leadership of development initiatives while partnering with organized community groups to strengthen their capacity and ensure they have appropriate governance structures that are accountable to beneficiaries and its stakeholders.

CIDI at a glance

Education, Youth and Children

The Education, Youth and Childrenís (EYC) work aims to support innovative approaches to strengthening education access, retention, transition and improved learning outcomes for Primary, Secondary, Tertiary and out-of-school youth. The approach focuses on holistic development of children and youth into productive members of society as well as strengthening service delivery systems at local level.

Our work places emphasis on multi-stakeholder approach to education & youth programming, capacity development, policy enhancement and promotion of entrepreneurship for out-of-school youth.

Livelihoods, Environment & Climate Change

CIDI is fully involved in environmental conservation. We engage in tree planting, building of sand dams, shallow wells and earth dams to harvest water for community use.

Partnerships, Policy & Communication

While delivering community development services, we maintain constant communication with all our partners and stakeholders, including line ministries.

Capacity Development & Organizational Development

We empower the youth and women through training, workshops, and seminars on how to start and run their own income generating initiatives. We enhance the capacity of CIDI to deliver by constantly training our staff on social development, project management, policy making and the importance of accountability in their work.

Preventive health care programme (Pona initiative)- HIV/AIDS

CIDI has been planting health care facilities in the slum settlements. Currently we are constructing a community health care facility at Kivandeni, Lower Yatta District, Kitui County.
